WELCOME TO YOUR LEAN SIX SIGMA COURSE!

I wanted to give you some information about the upcoming course so that you are informed and prepared.
If you have enrolled in our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course there is no assumption of previous statistical or Lean Six Sigma knowledge coming into the course. There is required and optional preparation to be completed before the class starts (see “To prepare for your Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course”).
If you have enrolled in our Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course, please read our Lean Six Sigma Black Belt course pre-requisites (https://sixsigmadsi.com/lean-six-sigma-black-belt-course-prerequisites/).
You will receive a “Welcome to My Course” email within two weeks of the class start date. The “Welcome to My Course” email will include the address of the training venue, class start and end time each day as well as other important information about the course.
Computer System Requirements for your Course:
Install a free 30 day trial license of Minitab Statistical Software on your Windows PC (http://www.minitab.com/en-us/products/minitab/free-trial/)
Minitab Statistical Software (Windows) System Requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 10
- RAM* 64-bit systems: 4 GB of memory or more recommended
- Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon™ Dual Core, with SSE2 technology
- Hard Disk Space: 2 GB (minimum) free space available
- Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 or higher
- Connectivity: An internet connection is required for activation of trial license
- Browser: A web browser is required for Minitab Help. Chrome or Edge is recommended.
*We will not be using Minitab for MAC in this course due to MAC limitations. If you are using a MAC operating system, please Install Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp Assistant (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468).

You will also need access to the Microsoft Office Core Apps (Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
To prepare for your Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course:
Required preparation to complete before the first day of class:
- Read the article “How to Select a Winning Lean Six Sigma Project”
- Download and complete the “Lean Six Sigma Project Proposal” worksheet. Please have available on the first day of class. The instructor will use the proposal and work with you to define a potential Lean Six Sigma project. If you are choosing to certify through successfully passing the IASSC test, please still bring in the complete proposal.
- The article ““How to Select a Winning Lean Six Sigma Project” will also give you an idea of what data looks like that you and your team will analyze. If possible, please bring a sample of your process data to the class so we can use to analyze and interpret.
- Review the “Getting Started with Minitab XX for Windows” PDF to become familiar with Minitab before the class start date.
- If you are using the 30 day free trial of Minitab, please wait until the week before the class to review “Getting Started with Minitab XX for Windows“.
- You are not required to review Chapter 5. “Designing an Experiment” (pages 37-49) in “Getting Started with Minitab XX for Windows
Optional (but recommended) review to complete before the first day of class:
** The optional review below will help you to prepare for our demanding Lean Six Sigma certification courses more effectively. You are not required to master the topics in the optional review, only to gain familiarity with the qualitative/statistical tools that we will teach further in the course. **

- Review the following tutorials of statistical analysis tools in Minitab. These tools were covered in the Green Belt course. The links below will take you to the tutorials to practice the analysis.
Please complete the following to prepare for the upcoming Black Belt course:
- Complete the Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification course. Go to https://sixsigmadsi.com/product/lean-six-sigma-white-belt-certification/ to register for the course. Use the Coupon Code “lsswb” (without the quotes).
- Read the article “How to Choose a Black Belt Project for Certification” (https://sixsigmadsi.com/how-to-choose-an-initial-black-belt-project-for-certification/)
- Bring to class a list with at least three potential Lean Six Sigma Black Belt projects
- Read the article “How to Complete a Lean Six Sigma Project Charter” (https://sixsigmadsi.com/how-to-complete-a-six-sigma-project-charter/). Download the free charter from the link on the article.
- Complete the “Business Case”, “Problem Statement”, “Objective Statement” and “Scope” sections of the charter for each potential project and bring each charter to class.
- Review the following tutorials of statistical analysis tools in Minitab. These tools will be covered in our five-day course. The links below will take you to the tutorials to practice the analysis. Please complete the tutorials to become familiar with the tools.
