Six Sigma Toronto Training FAQs

Are the courses designed as preparation for the IASSC exams or for individuals wanting to get a better understanding of the Six Sigma methodology?

Our course is designed to produce effective practitioners of Six Sigma. Our Six Sigma Toronto training classes are focused on the completion of a Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt project for certification. We are not a “boot camp” for the IASSC test. If your goal is to take the IASSC test (as is the goal of many of our clients), then let us know and we will point you to resources, along with our course, that will prepare you for the IASSC test.

Are your courses more geared towards LEAN or Six Sigma? How would you differentiate the two?

Our course in geared towards both Lean and Six Sigma. The difference between the two methodologies are:

  • The goal of Six Sigma is to eliminate defects, thereby improving quality and efficiency, by optimizing and improving all business processes.
  • The goal of Lean is to cut out wasteful steps in the creation of a product so that only steps that directly add value to the customer are taken thereby streamlining the process.

Our course teaches the core tools of both methodologies. We practice the Pareto concept in the development and delivery of our curriculum. What this means is we teach the 20% of the tools that are used 80% of the time. This allows us to shorten our class delivery time to five days. For the other 80% of the tools, we give you references (articles, tutorials, etc.).

What is the deadline to complete the Six Sigma project?

If you choose to complete the project option for certification, you are required to complete the project in no more than six (6) months from the last day of your class. We (SSDSI) will mentor you for up to six (6) months from the last day of your course. The project mentorship is included in the price you paid to attend the course.

Please see Six Sigma Certification Options for more information.

If you choose to take the IASSC test for your certification option, what is the deadline to take the IASSC test (once you have completed the course)?

If you choose to take the IASSC test for your certification option, there is no deadline to take the IASSC test after completion of our course. We suggest that that you wait no more than two weeks to complete the test so that the information you learned in class is still fresh in your mind.

If you choose to take the IASSC test, we will still offer mentorship of the project (or up to six (6) months from the last day of your course).

Please see Six Sigma Certification Options for more information.

If we decide to take the IASSC exam, will you supply us with resources we need to study from for the test?

Yes. In your Lean Six Sigma Training Toronto, Canada class, we will give you the extra resources to study in preparation for the IASSC examination.

What are the prerequisites to take the five (5) day Six Sigma Black Belt course?

In order to take the 5 day Six Sigma Black Belt course you must presently be certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt by either the IASSC (international Association for Six Sigma Certification), the ASQ (American Society for Quality) or SSDSI (our firm, Six Sigma Development Solutions, Inc.). See Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Course Prerequisites for more information.

If you are not certified by one of these three sources, and you have required prerequisite Six Sigma Green Belt knowledge, then you can take the Six Sigma Green Belt test through the IASSC for $295. When you pass the test, you will then meet our prerequisite. See Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Course Prerequisites for more information.

If you presently do not have a Six Sigma Green Belt certification and your goal is to become a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, you can choose our Six Sigma Black Belt FAST-TRACK Program.

I see you offer public Green Belt courses followed by a Black Belt course in the Six Sigma Black Belt FAST-TRACK Program. Is there a discount If a person registers for both classes?

We offer a 10% discount for three (3) or more employees registered from the same organization in the same class. If less than three employees registered from the same organization in the same class for both classes (the Six Sigma Green Belt class and the Six Sigma Black Belt class) the total cost would be $5,998.

See the Six Sigma Black Belt FAST-TRACK Program for more information.

Upon completing your Green Belt or Black Belt course, how do you take the exam? Do you offer the IASSC exam at the end of the course, or is that something the individual would do on their own?

The IASSC Green Belt Exam and the IASSC Black Belt Exam are offered only by the IASSC for an additional fee (on top of our class fee). We (SSDSI) do not give the exam at the end of class. The IASSC Green Belt Exam and the IASSC Black Belt Exam are offered as an on-demand web based exam.

Can an individual take the IASSC test as well as have a Master Black Belt Mentor them through their project?

Yes. We (SSDSI) will offer to mentor you for up to six (6) months from the last day of your course whether you take the IASSC test or not. The project mentorship is included in the price you paid to attend the course.

What statistical software will we be using in class?

We will be using a 30-day trial license of the most recent version of Minitab. You will have the option to buy Minitab at the end of the 30-day trial. If you decide not to continue the license, we have free Excel Alternatives to the Minitab statistical analysis.

Do I need any prerequisite knowledge for the Six Sigma Green Belt course (like statistics or a Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification)?
